BIN DAY

BIN DAY
A quick note: I 've decided to start transferring my work from my old site over to here. I'm still unsure whether I'll keep the old site up, but for now at least, while I'm doing my MA, here is where my thoughts about my work will go. As my Final Major Project coalesces, I'll post all my diary entries, videos and new work here too.

This project - Bin Day - marked a bit of a milestone for me in my MA in Photography at Falmouth. Up until this point, what I'd been doing really, was recording things for posterity. There seemed little else below the surface. I tried to make the images look nice of course, but mentally, I struggled a bit with my practice.

In truth, it wasn't really a practice at all, not until the module that produced this work. Until this point, my work lacked a proper grounding. An anchor. I went from being interested in something and making nice enough images of it, to being interested in something, researching the heck out of both it and any other academic subjects it might touch upon, and letting all of that guide me in using my camera with a purpose.

In later modules, I went much further in this direction. But this, I think was me getting over a hurdle I hadn't even ackowledged the existence of since my BA, some 30-ish years ago.

When I'm finally done with my Final Major Project (see previous post for more info) I might come back to this. It was incredibly fun to make and I can see numerous paths forward for it.

Statement of Intent below.

I chose to make the final outcome of this module a simple page on my main site, so to see the full work (including more images), statement of intent and other experiements please click below:
